Dawes

I cannot even put into words just how fucking much I love this new Blitzen Trapper jam and I don’t think I’m alone in that sentiment.  Never has a tune so quickly put me in the best of moods, removed my ass from a chair to dance about, consumed my brain.

Never have I so easily been sucked in by a band I had not frequently listened to up until last week, never have I so quickly considered an 800 mile round trip for a fucking show three states away, never have I so badly wanted a fucking t-shirt with that sweet ass logo up there on it.  To put that in perspective, I don’t even wear t-shirts.

I realize that two above par stellar jams a great album do not necessarily make but to say that I truly believe this new Blitzen Trapper record will not rock my balls off would be a lie.

In other news (unrelated to my non-existent balls), Blitzen Trapper is headed out on a co-headlining tour with Dawes.  Fucking Dawes.  If that ain’t one of the best bills of the year well, hell guy, what is?  Dates for that and BT’s just released jam below…

Blitzen Trapper :: Love The Way You Walk Away [mp3]

PRE-ORDER American Goldwing :: WEBSITE

6am Repeat is a recurring feature here at Folk Hive in which we stream the latest track that plays incessantly in the earbuds when we awake at that hour and imbibe massive amounts of coffee and cigarettes in preparation for the advancing day.  Consider it your jam of the day — a sweet, sweet gift from me to you.  I love you, dude.

There’s so many totally fucking rad things about this jam, I’m having a hard time putting it into words, really.  A list here, one that is numbered, makes sense:

1. Taylor Goldsmith reminds me of Dooce’s husband, Jon.

2. This jam, to me, sounds like the most awesome possible mash-up of like, 70’s era Eagles, coupled with some sweet, sweet dashes of Neil Young, and tossed together with some Nash.  It’s the tastiest recipe in the history of always, tune-wise.  (Also, I should note: The intelligent music people I follow on Twitter disagree whole-heartedly with my Eagles assessment of this sound.)

3. How one takes seemingly simple and perhaps even juvenile lyrics like, “And she does it so well.  She shows me where my dreams dwell.  She shows me how to find myself.” and makes it seem so grown and heartfelt and storied is beyond me.  This band’s lyrical abilities have more than tripled in the span of a singular album and that’s just astonishing.

In short, I love this shit.

This is me pointing you to the wonderful Daytrotter session the band unleashed yesterday.  In closing, this record is worth your money (and if you follow any of the rock writers I follow, you already know that).  BUY THIS FUCKING ALBUM.
