6am Repeat is a recurring feature here at Folk Hive in which we stream the latest track that plays incessantly in the earbuds when we awake at that hour and imbibe massive amounts of coffee and cigarettes in preparation for the advancing day. Consider it your jam of the day — a sweet, sweet gift from me to you. I love you, dude.
I always forget this one thing about Lord Huron’s music and then I listen to it and am reminded. I am made angry at myself that I ever forgot it to begin with. Ben Schneider (Lord Huron dude) has an insane gift, one that enables him to take a normally introspective lyric that might belong in a weepy jam — I will run but I know that I’ve decided my fate with my deeds — and root it in folk music. After, he peppers that music with elements you wouldn’t expect to find there (I usually don’t expect my folk music to sound like it comes from Bali) and it’s over. It’s so fucking good. I forget this every damn time. I don’t know how.
While most will dig “I Will Run” because the music makes it the penultimate summer jam, these lyrics are fucking slaying me. Mark my words, this is the last time I forget that Lord Huron is one of my favorite lyricists.
I’ve no regrets.
I will not ask for your forgiveness nor your defense.
