6am Repeat is a recurring feature here at Folk Hive in which we stream the latest track that plays incessantly in the earbuds when we awake at that hour and imbibe massive amounts of coffee and cigarettes in preparation for the advancing day.
I didn’t sleep well last night. Old age creeping in on me. But I’m not the type to get bent out of shape by little sleep. Little sleep means that in those hours of being half-awake and half-asleep, I am gifted with those odd dreams that one actually remembers. Last night I participated in a basketball game with a bunch of girls from high school I barely remember and a coach I recall disliking immensely. I stole the ball. This was obviously a dream — back in those years, my body type (long, lanky, with the coordination of someone walking constantly on stilts) prevented me from every doing anything of the awesome sort.
After that, I was back in junior high band. I was clarinet-ing the shit out of kids with instruments that cost more than mine. Actually, that happened.
As odd as those dreams were, so is this tune. Mixed up tempos, short 90s era beats, xylophones. I have no idea what the fuck Monolithic Cloud Parade is doing here…but I like it. I’m continuing those dreams, ya’ll.
